In future, the National Cancer Prevention Center will be housed in a striking building complex for pioneering cancer research topics on the campus of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) on Berliner Strasse in Heidelberg. German Cancer Aid a strategic partner of the DKFZ and, as the largest private organization in the fight against cancer, provides substantial funding for the building section of the National Cancer Prevention Center as well as numerous other projects and initiatives in the areas of research, public relations and further education, including the Digital Cancer Prevention Working Group and the Cancer Prevention Graduate School.
Research on prevention, early detection and survivorship is the focus of the DKFZ-Hector Cancer Institute at the University Medical Center Mannheim, which is funded by the Hector Foundation II, alongside personalized cancer therapy. The departments of Computational and Molecular Prevention, Cancer Survivorship and Psychological Resilience as well as Policy and Implementation Research in Cancer Prevention and the Junior Research Group Tumorigenesis and Molecular Cancer Prevention are funded.
This commitment is complemented by the financing of a laboratory for molecular prevention, which is being established in the section of the National Cancer Prevention Center within the new building complex, and the funding of another section in the new building, where researchers from the DKFZ-Hector Institute will work.
The Dietmar Hopp Foundation supports the establishment of a movement laboratory and the CAYA Survivorship Research Unit, which researches late as well as long-term side effects in children, adolescents and young adults (CAYA) who have survived cancer at a young age.
The Fuchs Family Society finances the premises of the Fuchs Family School of Prevention, which provides interdisciplinary training for the next generation of prevention experts.
The Viessmann Foundation funds the Nutrition Workshop at the National Cancer Prevention Center. As part of nutrition studies, experts research the influence of nutrition on cancer development and develop measures to promote a health-conscious lifestyle.
The Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation finances the German Prize for Cancer Prevention Research, which the German Cancer Research Center has been awarding every two years since 2021 to both established and young scientists for outstanding achievements in cancer prevention research.
